Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund Travel GrantThe Travel Grants, in the amount of $500, enable student recipients to attend professional meetings to present their research. The first 2010 Travel Grant application deadline is April 15, 2010. Jerry Soffen, a biologist by training, led a distinguished career in NASA, including serving as the Project Scientist for Viking and as an architect for the NASA Astrobiology Institute. Amelia Earhart FellowshipThe Amelia Earhart Fellowships are awarded annually to women pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$6,000 may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees. Students must be registered in a Ph.D./doctoral program when funds are received. Current fellows may apply to renew the Fellowship for a second year and will undergo the same application and evaluation procedures as firsttime
applicants.
Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering are eligible. Please note that defense-related and post-doctoral research programs are not eligible for the Fellowship. The Swiger Doctoral Fellowships provide an annual stipend of $22,000 plus remission of tuition. Fellows are expected to contribute to the teaching mission of their colleges (see VIIC).
